So.....I’m back! I won’t go
into detail but just to say that I now operate with a pacemaker connected to
my heart. All seems good so I returned to my home in El Cardonal on Sunday the 12th.
I do want to thank with deepest gratitude the following people who made my stay
in CA not only possible but extremely pleasant. Chronologically: Zack &
Rachel, Macy & Erin, Chris & Trillium, Susan, Charlie & Lisa, Leon
& Nancy, Shauna, Kirsten, Alan & Marilyn, Kersti, Kevin & Kelley,
Peter & Julie – thank you all so very much.
Members of my family at the end of the trip: from left, me, bro Peter, sis-in-lawJulie, niece Kelley, daughter Kersti, son Zack, nephew Kevin - and the dogs.
The whales are a bit late this
year in my grid. Nothing serious (I hope) because there seem to be plenty
around Cabo and as far north as Los Frailes my way, just not here. I need to hold
back a bit anyway due to a minor complication with the pacemaker (again nothing
serious). I did however finally get last years data to Jorge Urban at the
university in La Paz. Here are a couple of great pics – NOT MINE – showing humpbacks
doing “bubble netting” and a large group of sperm whales up close.
sperm whales up close - swam in a group of 27 a few years back.
HOWEVER: I did get out a
couple of times before my med problems and here are HB# 1 17 & HB# 2 17. And I saw my first Risso’s Dolphin!

I have to include what might
become one of the most exciting discoveries in astronomy this year. A star only
39 light years away has a solar system with seven rocky planets three of which
are in “The Goldilocks zone” of their star: therefore capable of sustaining life.
This is very, very big for those of us who are waiting for that first word that
there is other life off this planet – HooHah!!
Here are two of the women I
fell in love with when still a young lad – yes, I was very young. I include
them because…..well, just because.
Susan Hayward
Claudette Colbert
Speaking of beautiful things
here are some animal shots (not mine) that I love and want to share.
Well, everybody is beautiful in their own way, no?
This is interesting. A new
archeological site has been discovered that dwarfs Stonehenge.
Two other sites worth
mentioning – yet another field of study I could have easily followed –
Archeology!
The great and “fabled” city
of Heracleion was recently discovered and is now providing marine archeologists
with a veritable playground of ancient structures. It is very near Alexandria Egypt. Ah......now there’s
a great combo – water and discovery.
And where is this? Mumbai,
western coast of India. Really worth checking out all the pics
One last thought: be kind to
bats, they are the “night birds” that eat a lot of insects – very important to the biosphere!
